23 July 2013 – BUDDIST LENT
It’s a continuous religious day next to Asarnha Bucha Day. This falls on the first waning moon day of every eighth month. The monks refrain from going out of the temples for a duration of three months during this period of rainy season.
This religious event is marked by the Buddhists giving alms to the monks early morning and participating in the candle-lit ceremony of circulating three times around the temple in the evening.
There’s also a celebration of big sculptured candles being carried in a procession along the streets. This has become an attractive yearly festival in many big cities of Thailand.
